Masterclass in Trompe-l’œil and wood graining

 

Course Content

  • In-depth coverage and discussion on the techniques of trompe-l’œil.

  • Supported / guided practice day.

  • Planned and prepped practical application.

  • Demonstrations, application support and correction guidance.

  • painting techniques

  • Daily, Individualised 1:1 support and guidance for hands on practice

  • Curtailed class size allows for individualised learning styles and focused 1:1 training. 

  • 40 hours of studio time

  • Active application of discussed learned material.

  • Set time on the last day for Q&A

  • Individual and qualitative support and guidance

  • Design of panels provided by instructor.

Applications: This course is suitable those with a moderate to intermediate level in practical application in this field.

It is aims towards professionals and students wishing to undertake hands-on  and practical approach to studying trompe-l’œil and woodgraining

Instructor: Shane Ralph Master Decorative Artist – Fellow of the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Member of the Irish Georgian Society, member of the Scottish Association of Painting and Craft Teachers

Certification: Students receive the studios certificate of professional  practice.

Programme outline:

  • Brief history

  • detailing the udergrain

  • preparing the panels

  • Applying / designing the initial sketch

  • using the proper tools to create the linings,

  • Study of various molding profiles

  • Discussion on historic  murals and modern murals

  • discussing the proper tools

  • Rendering

  • Creating aged effects,  patina,

  • depth &  shadows

 

Outcomes upon completion: Upon completion of any of these courses, you will have:

  • Created and completed your individual samples / Panels of Tromp L’œil with wood graining background and decorative moldings.

  • Have achieved a better understanding in all aspects of Tromp L'oeil

  • Will have increased confidence in your approach.

  • Will receive the studios certificate of Professional Practice, upon completion of the course.

  • Students create individual panels  (design provided by instructor)
